Commitment to Net Zero

Living Well Partners is committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions across its UK operations no later than 2050.

As a small, digitally enabled organisation, Living Well Partners recognises that its environmental footprint is relatively modest compared with organisations operating physical premises, vehicle fleets or manufacturing facilities. Nevertheless, we recognise our responsibility to measure, manage and reduce the environmental impact associated with our activities as the organisation develops.

Environmental sustainability will therefore be considered within operational, procurement, travel and digital-service decisions.

Nature of our operations

Living Well Partners primarily provides digital innovation, research, evaluation, consultancy, health and wellbeing solutions and associated professional services.

Our operating model is predominantly remote and digital. This reduces the requirement for permanent office premises, routine commuting, paper-based systems and printing, physical storage, unnecessary business travel and resource-intensive delivery models.

Our principal potential sources of greenhouse gas emissions are therefore associated with home and remote working, digital infrastructure and cloud services, IT equipment, business travel, purchased goods and services and waste.

Carbon reduction and environmental measures

Remote-first working

Living Well Partners operates on a remote-first basis wherever this is compatible with effective service delivery.

Online meetings and collaborative digital systems are used in preference to unnecessary journeys, while recognising that face-to-face engagement may sometimes be beneficial or required.

Sustainable business travel

Where travel is necessary, Living Well Partners will:

  • consider remote participation before travelling;
  • combine meetings and activities where practical to reduce journeys;
  • use public transport where reasonably practicable;
  • favour rail over domestic air travel where practical;
  • minimise unnecessary mileage; and
  • consider environmental impact alongside cost, accessibility and operational requirements when making travel decisions.

Where car travel is necessary, Living Well Partners currently uses an electric vehicle for business travel, helping to reduce reliance on petrol and diesel transport.

Accessibility and reasonable-adjustment requirements will remain an important consideration when determining appropriate travel arrangements.

Digital-first documentation

Living Well Partners operates a digital-first approach to documentation, communication, research and project management.

Electronic documents, digital signatures and secure online sharing are preferred to printing and physical distribution wherever practicable.

Where printing is required, unnecessary printing will be avoided and recycled or sustainably sourced materials will be preferred where feasible.

Energy and equipment

Living Well Partners seeks to reduce energy and resource consumption associated with technology by:

  • using energy-efficient equipment where practical;
  • enabling energy-saving settings;
  • switching equipment off when not required;
  • maintaining and extending the useful life of devices rather than replacing them unnecessarily;
  • responsibly recycling electronic equipment at the end of its useful life; and
  • considering energy efficiency and environmental performance when purchasing replacement equipment.

Digital and cloud services

As a digital organisation, Living Well Partners recognises that cloud computing, data storage and artificial intelligence services have environmental impacts.

Living Well Partners will therefore:

  • avoid unnecessary duplication and long-term retention of digital information where it has no operational, legal or research purpose;
  • periodically review digital services and infrastructure;
  • consider the environmental commitments of significant technology suppliers where reasonably possible; and
  • use digital and AI resources proportionately to the purpose for which they are required.

Procurement and suppliers

Environmental considerations will be incorporated proportionately into purchasing and supplier decisions.

Where products or services are otherwise suitable and commercially reasonable, preference will be given to options that demonstrate reduced waste, responsible sourcing, efficient resource use or credible environmental commitments.

Waste reduction

Living Well Partners aims to minimise waste through reuse, digital delivery and responsible purchasing.

Paper, packaging, electronic equipment and other recyclable materials will be recycled through appropriate facilities wherever practicable.

Carbon measurement and monitoring

As the organisation develops, Living Well Partners will improve the measurement of greenhouse gas emissions associated with its operations.

This will include progressively recording and reviewing relevant sources including:

  • energy associated with business operations;
  • business travel;
  • purchased goods and services;
  • digital and technology infrastructure where information is available;
  • waste generated through operations; and
  • other relevant Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 emission categories.

Where quantitative greenhouse gas calculations are undertaken, Living Well Partners will use recognised methodologies and appropriate UK Government greenhouse gas conversion factors.

This information will be used to identify proportionate opportunities for further emissions reduction.

Future carbon reduction priorities

During future reporting periods, Living Well Partners intends to:

  • strengthen its organisational carbon baseline;
  • improve recording of business travel and relevant purchased services;
  • continue remote-first and digital-first delivery where appropriate;
  • review major suppliers and digital services from an environmental perspective;
  • continue reducing unnecessary resource consumption;
  • incorporate environmental considerations into the development and delivery of new digital solutions; and
  • review progress annually against the commitment to achieve Net Zero by 2050.

Governance and review

This Carbon Reduction Plan forms part of Living Well Partners’ approach to responsible and sustainable business practice.

The plan will be reviewed at least annually and updated within six months of the end of the organisation’s financial year.

Progress, changes in the organisation’s activities and opportunities for further emissions reduction will be considered as part of each review.

Declaration and commitment

Living Well Partners confirms its commitment to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions no later than 2050.

The organisation will continue to take proportionate measures to reduce the environmental impact and carbon footprint associated with its business operations and service delivery.

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been approved by the senior leadership of Living Well Partners.
