How digital innovations can help support people living with dementia

Well-designed digital tools can help people living with dementia keep routines, stay connected and live independently for longer, while giving carers more confidence and support.

Where digital support can help

  • Reminders and simple routines for daily activities, appointments and medication.
  • Staying connected with family, friends and community groups.
  • Memory and life-story tools that support conversation and identity.
  • Information and practical guidance for family carers, including working carers.
  • Helping services understand what matters to people, through feedback and evaluation.

Design principles that matter

Digital support only helps if people can and want to use it. That means simple, familiar layouts, large clear text, minimal steps, and involving people living with dementia and their carers in testing. It also means respecting privacy and choice, and never replacing human contact or clinical care.

Supporting carers at work

Many people caring for a relative with dementia are also working. Employers can help by offering flexibility and accessible information so carers do not have to choose between their job and the person they care for.

How we can help
