Service Carbon Impact Calculator

What could change if you reduced unnecessary travel, coordinated your workforce better and made smarter use of existing facilities?

  • Compare before & after
  • UK 2026 conversion factors
  • No account required
  • No data uploaded
  1. 01 / Start with activity

Enter annual travel and energy use under your current model.

  2. 02 / Model a change

Enter a realistic new model: remote delivery, locality scheduling or venue reuse.

  3. 03 / Review the difference

Compare indicative CO₂e and export a transparent summary.

Interactive calculator

Your delivery scenarios

Enter annual activity totals, not numbers of people. A smaller proposed figure represents reduced activity; a higher figure shows an increase rather than hiding it. Round-trip distances must already be included in the kilometres you enter.

Illustrative example loaded — these figures are hypothetical, not actual Living Well Partners or customer emissions. Change them or choose Clear all.

Organisation activities

Business travel by car

Annual vehicle-km · staff travelling between workplaces or visits

Employee commuting by car

Annual vehicle-km · included as a separate category

Business rail travel

Annual passenger-km

Premises electricity

Annual kWh · include only electricity that actually changes

Premises natural gas

Annual kWh, gross calorific value · include only if changed

Business travel and commuting use vehicle kilometres; rail uses passenger kilometres. The same published 2026 factor is applied to both scenarios, so changes reflect activity rather than a change of reporting year.

Wider service-user impacts

Service-user travel by car

Annual vehicle-km · wider system effect, not corporate total

Service-user travel is shown separately. It may sit outside the reporting organisation’s emissions inventory — do not add it to corporate totals without checking the accounting boundary.

What this means

The proposed organisation activities are estimated to be 33% lower in this simplified model. Check all omitted or additional emissions before making external claims.

A change in delivery should also consider digital infrastructure, remote-working energy and any extra journeys or facilities required. This quick tool does not calculate those impacts unless they appear in the activity inputs above, and makes no assumptions about embodied carbon avoided by reusing existing technology.

Methodology and transparency

This is an indicative before-and-after scenario calculator, not a full corporate carbon footprint, a verified emissions reduction claim or a procurement-compliant Carbon Reduction Plan.

Factors used — UK 2026

ActivityFactorUnit
Average car, unknown fuel0.16591kg CO₂e / vehicle-km
National rail0.03092kg CO₂e / passenger-km
UK grid electricity generated0.13096kg CO₂e / kWh
Natural gas combustion, gross calorific value0.18231kg CO₂e / kWh

Factor year: 2026. Publication: Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), UK greenhouse gas reporting conversion factors 2026 (opens in a new tab).

How are the results calculated?

For each activity, kilograms CO₂e = annual activity × its 2026 factor. Current and proposed totals are calculated separately using the same factors. The difference is current minus proposed; a negative difference is shown as an increase. Service-user travel is displayed separately from the organisation scenario. This simplified calculator excludes upstream well-to-tank fuel emissions, transmission and distribution losses, equipment production, paper, cloud and digital services, and any other impacts not entered.

Can I use this as my NHS or council Carbon Reduction Plan?

No. A formal Carbon Reduction Plan requires a defined reporting boundary, baseline and current-year reporting, the required Scope 1, 2 and 3 categories, governance and approvals, and the applicable procurement format. For NHS supply, consult NHS England’s 2027 requirements (opens in a new tab). This tool is for exploring potential delivery changes only.

Is my information stored?

No. Calculations run in your browser. Your entries are not sent to a server and no account is created. If you print or export results, the files are handled on your own device.
